The American Family Life Assurance Company, or Aflac, was founded in 1955. In the 1970s, they expanded their company to 37 states and started selling insurance in Japan. What Isn’t Covered in the Aflac Dental Insurance Plans?
Unfortunately, not all dental work is covered under the Aflac Dental Insurance Plans. Orthodontic services, such as braces, retainers, and veneers, are considered cosmetic treatments, so Aflac will not cover those procedures.
Aflac also has a “no tooth” clause in their insurance, so you will need at least one real tooth to sign up for Aflac Dental Insurance. This insurance is also unavailable in MA, NJ, NM, NY, RI, VA, or WA.
Vision & Hearing With the Aflac Dental Insurance Plan
Vision and hearing insurance are available as add-ons to the Aflac Dental Insurance Core and Elite plans. These will cost you a bit more in monthly premiums, but you will get coverage that isn’t normally included in your general health insurance. You must get both to pair with your dental insurance.
If you get Vision & Hearing Insurance with your Aflac Dental Plan and decide to cancel your Vision & Hearing Policy, you will have to cancel your Dental Insurance Policy too. Unfortunately, that means resetting all the waiting periods you might have endured.
Here’s what you can get from the Aflac Vision and Hearing plans:
Aflac Vision Insurance
When you add Aflac Vision Insurance to your dental plan, your annual vision exam is 100% covered after you pay a $10 copay, and you’ll be able to use it immediately because there is no waiting period.
The big difference between the Core and Elite plans is the frame, lens, and contact allowance. Every 24 months, Core Insurance Members will get $150 towards their frames, lenses, and contacts while Elite Insurance members receive $250.
Aflac Hearing Insurance
Aflac’s Hearing Insurance gets you a $75 reimbursement for an annual hearing exam, $500 a year towards hearing aids and repairs, and a $25 yearly deductible. You can use your benefits immediately because there is no waiting period.
The difference between the Core and Elite plans is the waiting period for hearing aids and repair. The Core plan will have you waiting a year for the $500 allowance, and the Elite plan will make you wait 9 months for the same allowance.
