What is Accident Insurance?

Accident insurance is a specific life insurance policy that helps cover accident-related expenses. Depending on the policy, that can include sports-related injuries, accidentally cutting yourself with a knife, or slipping on ice. Unfortunately, accident insurance does not cover conditions that occur due to a pre-existing condition, such as arthritis or other long-term ailments.

Accident insurance is typically supplemental insurance that you can get in conjunction with regular health insurance and should not be used as a replacement for health coverage

Aflac History

Aflac, originally called the American Family Life Assurance Company, was founded in 1995. They expanded their reach to 37 states within the US and Japan in the 1970s and shortened their name to Aflac in 1989.

In the mid-1990s and 2000s, Aflac focused their charity efforts on fighting childhood cancer. They started using the iconic Aflac Duck mascot in the 2000s and created brand recognition in the US and Japan.

How Does Aflac Accident Insurance Work?

A man sitting at his at home office with a laptop and notebook in front of him. He's holding a pen in his right hand and looks frustrated.
Once you are in an accident and receive medical treatment, you can make a claim to Aflac Accident Insurance at your earliest convenience. You do not need to give your Aflac policy information to the hospital or medical provider who treated you.

Policyholders need to make claims online through their portal and answer a few questions about the accident they were in. They will also be asked to provide any doctor or hospital information so that they can verify the treatment given by a provider. Once everything is confirmed with your policy, Aflac will directly deposit money into the policyholders’ bank account that can be used for copays, deductibles, or other external expenses.

Customer Reviews

I may be one of the few who have never had issues with Aflac. I’ve had them since 2018. I have several policies with them, and I must say they have always done a great job. I do miss the quick pay turnaround times, but otherwise, my claims get processed and completed. I always get great customer service as well. Like I said, I may be one of the lucky ones. They have been great to me, and I hope it continues.
